PROJECT METHODOLOGY
Introduction:
This chapter contains detailed information about
working done on the progression of project. The main concern of the project was
analysis of road under different conditions. The analysis ofroads under
different factors is the branch of highway engineering concerned with the
fatigue life and rut depth of pavement. The basic objectives in pavement analysis
are to optimize efficiency and safety while minimizing cost and environmental
damage. Project scope was organized in following steps:
• Importing
collected data to Mitchpave.
• Making
changes for the purpose of analysis.
• Performing
analysis..
• Plotting
the data on sheets.
Selection of Project:
The project which was selected for analysis of
pavement using mitchpavewas taken from Lahore named Lahore Ring Road. The
physical attributes of project are as follows:
• pavement
area is assumed to expand considerably in the straight directions,
The last layer is understood to be infinitely deep
• Length
of road is 85 km.
• All
the pavement layers are thought to be fully bonded so that no slip occurs due
to applied load.
Working on Mitch Pave:
First phase of project working is to stepwise import
the data to the Mitch pave and make the required changes to perform analysis.
Changing
Existing File.
First
step in the mitchpave is to Change the existing file name because when we
change data it should be saved with another name.
Changing Existing File |
: Modifying initial Data.
Variables Used in Mitch pave:
The factors which we changed to perform analysis are
as following.
1. Temperature
2. Kinematic
Viscosity\
3. Void
Ratio
4. AC Modulus
5. WBM
Modulus
6. Sub
Grade Modulus
7. Sub
Base Modulus
Temperature.
change the temperature with a constant
interval and check its effects on fatigue life and rut depth.
1. First
of all open mitch pave
2. Then
go to option no 4 (modify an existing) file menu.
3. After
in this menu press 1 to change the initial settings where change file name and
leave the rest as be then press f1 key to save.
4. After
pressing f1 are now in the new menu
which is shown in the figure 3.2 and here
change the value of temperature. This is highlighted in figure.
5. After
that press f1 again to save our changes
and this takes us back to modify and existing file menu.
6. Now we
press 2 to modify material type.
7. We do
not change anything in this menu and press f1 to go back to modify an existing
data file menu.
8. Now we
press 3 to go to the next menu which is named as modify material properties
here we also do not change anything we just press f1 to go back to modify an
existing file menu.
9. Now we
press 4 to go to next menu named as modify cross sections for computation we
also do not change anything in this menu and just press f1 to go back to modify
an existing file menu.
10. There
are no 5, 6 and 7 options too but our concern is with no 7 which is go back to
main menu so we press no 7 and go back to main menu.
11. In main
menu now we press 5 to perform analysis
12. A new
menu opens showing results of every data we changed.
13. Then we
put this data on excel sheets to make a graphical representation of our
results.
14. One
important thing to note is that we cannot see our results on mitchpave again
after closing so we have to capture a screen shot.
